Friends of CINI in Scotland
CINI Newcastle Group
Friends of CINI in Scotland has the distinction of being the first CINI
support group to be formed outside India and is recognised as a charity for tax purposes.
With modest beginnings at a coffee morning in the West of Scotland, it has built up a network of
supporters, both individuals and Trusts, who have raised well over £100,000
for CINI since 1982.
The group owes its existence to dietician Margie Stephen, whose discussion
with a friend who had visited CINI, convinced her that this organisation,
concerned about malnutrition among India’s poorest, was worth supporting.
She is helped by a committee of ten volunteers, including an accountant.
Friends of CINI achieved charitable status in 1999, just in time to take the
tax advantage of a very generous donation of over £1m. This has not only
enabled CINI to raise staff salaries, but also to widen its international
support.
Friends of CINI holds one or two fundraising events in the West of Scotland each
year and publishes an annual newsletter to keep its supporters informed.
If you would like to receive a copy of the newsletter, or become involved
